Help
Policy unplugged provides an online space where you can make your voice heard as an individual or in a group, strike up conversations, and work together with others.
It's rather like our events, because most of the content is created bottom-up by those participating rather than those on the platform.
On the site there are standard pages - but much of the content is small items posted by registered site users. Others can add comments below items.
The small items are created by the site users posting to their individual online spaces - their blogs. It's a bit like sending an email, except the items (posts) end up on the web site with more than just subject and text. You can add a category to make sure it ends up with posts on the same topic. It is also possible to add pictures, video or sound files.
Getting Started
To get started you need to click the Login/Register link in the left sidebar and enter the user name and password previously emailed to you by Policy Unplugged. Once logged in, the sidebar changes to provide your personal menu. Through this you can go to "my blog" where web pages hold your previous posts. You can "create content' - blog posts, "RSVP" to event invitations, and manage "my account."
If this is the first time you have logged in, go to "my account" where the edit tab will allow you to change your account settings, and also create a short profile. Click "submit" at the bottom of the page and your profile will show up with others under the "users" tab at the top of every page.
Posting Your First Conversation Entry
If you then want to try posting your first blog entry, click "create content" on your personal menu, choose blog entry on the next page, and then you will have a form for subject and content. Once you have added those, choose a category from the list on the right and click submit at the bottom of the page.
The blog post will then end up on your blog pages, and in the category page with others on the same topic. It will also go to the top of the front page and stay there until someone else posts.
We hope that using the rest of the site is pretty straightforward. Most of the pages in the main sections are just like straight web pages, with the added benefit that you can add comments, and also email the page to someone else. The author of the page appears in the right sidebar so you can check their profile.
