'Transformational Government - Enabled by Technology',
Published by the Cabinet Office's e-Government Unit in November 2005 this is the Government's latest strategy for ICT in the public services.
The document "...sets out the Government's vision for a long-term transformation of public services to provide efficient, effective services designed around the needs of citizens and businesses."
The strategy revolves around three themes of:
- Customer focus
- Shared services
- The IT Profession in Government
It incorporates understanding of the forward moving nature of technology and provides some allowance for capturing innovation and interaction with SMEs.
The Work Foundation research programme on the Knowledge Economy
On 28th April 2006 The Work Foundation announced a £1.5m, three year research programme into the nature of the Knowledge Economy.
The strands of the programme are:
- What is the knowledge economy?
- Mapping the transformations ahead
- What does Asia's rise imply for "knowledge capitalism"?
- What does the knowledge economy imply for work, employment and welfare?
- Producing knowledge: what is the optimal framework for R&D and innovation?
- What kind of financial system does the knowledge economy require?
- What does the concept of "service" mean in the knowledge economy?
- What framework of intellectual property rights is needed in a knowledge economy?
OGC Capturing Innovation pamphlet
This 2004 guide published by the Office of Government Commerce for public sector decision makers outlines basic principles of capturing innovation with an emphasis on involvement of suppliers not merely throughout the procurement and contract lifecycle but at early stages:
- when policy is being formulated
- when programmes and projects are being shaped
- in the formulation of procurement strategy

This conference discussed the impact of internet technologies, especially the new wave of '2.0' technologies, on media, journalism and 'the connected society'.
6th June 2006, London
This event organised by New Media Knowledge addresses content in the era of '2.0' technologies, discussing:
- Do user generated content (UGC) and social networks pose a significant threat to content created by traditional content producers?
- What kind of impact do current trends and innovations have on established business models?
- Is Web 2.0 more about delivering a social value or benefit for the consumer and where do brands figure in the connected landscape?
- How will the commercial value of content be realised in the future? How do we handle the transition?
